How we handle your data
Bánh Mì Brief is a free, independent newsletter on Vietnam's economy, run privately from Switzerland. It carries no advertising. This page explains what personal data we process and why, in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for readers in the EU, the GDPR.
Who is responsible
Bánh Mì Brief, Switzerland. Contact for all privacy questions: crew@banhmibrief.com.
What we collect
- Newsletter subscribers: your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and whether you are subscribed.
- Website visitors: nothing beyond the technical data every web server needs to deliver a page (such as IP address and browser type), handled by our hosting provider. We use no cookies, no analytics and no tracking pixels.
Why, and on what basis
We use your email address only to send you the Bánh Mì Brief and, rarely, service messages about it. The basis is your consent, which you give by signing up and confirming via the link we email you (double opt-in). You can withdraw it at any time. We never sell, rent or share your address for anyone else's marketing.
How long we keep it
As long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep only your address and the date you left, so that we do not email you again by mistake. Ask us and we delete that too. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days.
Who helps us
We use a few service providers who process data only on our instructions:
- Cloudflare (website hosting and subscriber list)
- Zoho and, for larger mailings, Amazon Web Services (email delivery)
- GitHub (publishing workflow; holds no subscriber list)
Some of these providers are based in, or may access data from, the United States. Transfers rely on the Swiss-U.S. and EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
- Unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask for access to your data, a correction, deletion, or a copy in a common format, by writing to crew@banhmibrief.com.
- Complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority of your country.
